EKRANAS - 2008 metų Lietuvos čempionas

Football club “Ekranas” – the representative team of Panevezys which has around 140000 citizens was established in 1964 by the managing director of “Ekranas” screen factory Vincentas Navickas. For a long time the chief executive of the team, which at a time belonged to the factory, was Mr. Vytautas Olozas, the director of economy. The first head coach of the team was V. Daunoras. For 3 years the team participated in local championship of Panevezys.

In 1968 the team finished 1st in the group called “Zalgiris” of Lithuanian championship and gained the possibility to represent city of Panevezys in top Lithuanian League together with their city rivals “Statyba”. The debut was not the easy one as all top players of the city were playing for “Statyba”.

The first ever match of FC “Ekranas” in Lithuanian top league was played in 19 of April in 1969. FC “Ekranas” lost away match to FC “Nevezis” in Kedainiai. The first historical goals were scored by K. Ramonis and A. Vaitkevicius. The team finished the season in 11th position among 17 teams.

The club hit the top at 1980 when former FC “Atlantas” professional player M. Kauspedas took the team‘s position of head coach. Hard work and determination helped the team to achieve great things. FC “Ekranas” established itself as one of the best football clubs in Lithuania winning the first Lithuanian title in 1985, the cup of “Tiesa” and Baltic Champions’ Cup in Parnu, Estonia.

The new chapter of the club began in 1989 when M. Kauspedas left the club and Virginijus Liubsys became the head coach of the club. The patient building of the team and club gave good dividends. In the season of 1992-1993 FC “Ekranas” won second Lithuanian title.

From the year 1993 A. Michelsonas who was director of commerce of “Ekranas” factory became the sponsor and president of the club. On 25th of April, 1994 the club was finally separated from “Ekranas” factory and a new legal person FC “Ekranas” was established.

For many years FC “Ekranas” had been representing independent Lithuania in UEFA organized competitions and other tournaments in Czech Republic, Russia, Hungary, Germany, Finland, Slovakia, Belgium, Poland, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy.

In the seasons of 2003 and 2004 the club finished as runner-ups in Lithuanian “A League” losing to their main rivals FBK “Kaunas”.

Finally in 2005 the permanent enemy FBK “Kaunas” was beaten and FC “Ekranas” were crowded champions of Lithuania for a third time in history.

In late fall of 2005 the management of the club resigned and the club was overtaken. Mindaugas Juozaitis was appointed as chairman of the board and Tomas Sitnikovas became a general manager of the club.

The season of 2006 was less successful in “A League” as the team were beaten once again by FBK “Kaunas” and finished second. However FC “Ekranas” did well in UEFA Champions’ League first qualifying round eliminating Albanian champions KF “Elbasani” before being stopped by mighty NK “Dinamo Zagreb”, Croatia. FC “Ekranas” won the Baltic League promotion Cup beating Estonian and Latvian champions. The club could have won the Lithuanian Cup but unfortunately team lost to FC “Suduva” in the final.

The year 2006 was successful for youth teams of the Club. The reserve team under the guide of coaches Darius Butkus and Giedrius Juzelenas finished in the 1st place of Lithuanian Northern Zone championships. The U-16 team coached by Linas Niurka and U-15 team coached by Ricaras Cereska won their championships of Lithuania and U-17 team coached by Darius Butkus finished as runner-ups

Year 2007 started with changes in club. Saulius Sirmelis was appointed as head coach while Virginijus Liubsys took sports director position. Ausrys Labinas became the president of the club. In the middle of season Saulius Sirmelis left and Darius Butkus took the helm until the end of the season. FC “Ekranas” made it to the second qualifying round of UEFA Cup where later was eliminated by IF “Valerenga”, Norway. The club finished at the third place of “A League” letting FBK “Kaunas” and FC “Suduva” in front.

EKRANAS - 2010 metų Lietuvos čempionas

The changes shook the club at the start of 2008. Valdas Urbonas became new head coach of the club. Virginijus Liubsys after long years of work left the club for the head coach position of FC “Vetra”. Despite major changes and loss of some former leaders FC “Ekranas” managed to silence the critics and skepticism regarding clubs future. Against all odds FC “Ekranas” stormed powerfully through every opposition and clinched fourth Lithuanian title beating FBK “Kaunas” in crucial matches at the very end of the season. Moreover club participated in UEFA Intertoto where FC “Ekranas” managed to get into the second round before being eliminated by Norwegian legendary club BK “Rosenborg”. The club reserve team did well in reserve championship and finished as runner-ups.

Former and actual player of FC “Ekranas” are regular member of Lithuanian national team. Marius Stankevicius, Cesnauskis brothers, Arunas Klimavicius, Mantas Savenas have already established themselves as regulars. Valdas Trakys, Giedrius Tomkevicius, Vytautas Cerniauskas receive call-ups as well. Many players of the club are members of U-21 and U-19 national teams of Lithuania.

This summer FC "Ekranas" is going to celebrate 45 years anniversary
