First A league match against “Suduva”

2012 february 14d.

After the participants of Lithuanian Football A League Championship cast the lot, they learnt their pairs to be. The sequence of the teams was established in random order fir the first time in in the history of the A league.

So far, Lithuanian championship schedule was drawn up under the table of the last season tournament – the last year's champion used to begin the season playing with the team that took the last position, vice-champion with the penultimate team, and so on. This year, the Lithuanian Football Federation considered the request of clubs and changed the system.

“Telling their wishes for the formation of championship schedule, clubs wanted to replace the old system. We proposed to determine the teams’ future opponents by drawing lots; "- said the LFF competitions and events section manager Nerijus Dunauskas -" The main difference in the new system is a small chance that there will be several consecutive games between leaders and between leaders and outsiders. Teams may have to distribute their power in a more balanced way. We hope that the championship will be more interesting for that."

"Under the previous system, the last tours were rarely decisive, because the situation was resolved before," - said the Chairman of the Club Board and VMFD “Zalgiris” head Vilma Venslovaitienė - "We decided that the new scheduling method will be much more interesting not only for teams but also for the audience throughout the season. Our goal of the season is to pay more attention to the viewer."

In the lot, teams cast numbers, according to how teams are ranked in laps (called Berger) in the system. In total, this season will consist of four laps; each club will meet each other twice at home and twice away.

Lot has resulted in the first round national champion to meet the team of the bronze medal “Suduva” Marijampole in the away match. Panevėžys club president Aušrys Labinas was satisfied with the beginning of the season: "It will be interesting to the audience, and the team will be determined for a hundred percent. I think that the new system will go to benefit because it is the beginning of the season and fans will be able to see a more aggressive game at once."

March 10-11 vice-champion “Zalgiris” is playing an away match against "Banga" Gargzdai and a newcomer "REO" Vilnius is playing against “Dainava” Alytus at home. "Atlantas" Klaipeda is meeting "Siauliai" at home and “Kruoja” from Pakruojis is playing against "Tauras" Tauragė at home.

Clubs supported the proposal to allow playing the first rounds of the season in halls or in LFF artificial cover stadiums until April 30. The exact location of home games clubs must report by February 23. On this day, LFF, clubs and leagues Broadcasting Board, is meeting and adjust a more accurate match schedule.
