"Ekranas" ended fights in Europe
On Thursday evening, in Romanian capital Bucharest, “Ekranas” was beaten in the play-off match of the UEFA Europa League 0:3 (0:2) to “Steaua” team and withdrew from the tournament. The first match ended in Vilnius, with Panevezys team failure 0:2.
The match started with the hosts’ attacks, but "Ekranas" reliably defended and Emilijus Zubas demonstrated a great game when was needed.
"Ekranas" failed to keep the ball for longer time, often attacks ended far from the “Steaua” penalty area.
Permanent opponent attacks gave the result. At 20 min, Y.Urdinov lost the ball in the middle of the pitch and Adi Rocha scored from close. After ten minutes, Raul Rusescu ran one against Emilijus Zubas, he won the duel against the forward, but the immediately another attack started and here Andrei Dumitras scored another goal to his team.
After the second goal, the game settled down a bit, "Ekranas" kept the ball longer but failed to seriously threaten.
In the second half, “Steaua” felt enough at ease, "Ekranas" didn’t do anything serious to the opponents’ box, and the Romanians didn’t rush to attack. They tried to score from far or after standard situations.
In the middle of the second half “Ekranas” managed to control the ball longer, but they didn’t come closer, and when lost the ball, immediately followed “Steaua” attacks.
Probably the best chance to "Ekranas" was at 65 minute, when Ž. Kymantas and A. Vertelis ran against a rival defender. Unfortunately, Ž. Kymantas didn’t see A. Vertels and ran one to the box, however, the ball was soon lost, and a great opportunity was missed.
Towards the end of the match, the fast attack ended in the third goal.At 87 minute, A. Rocha ran one against E. Zubas and scored.
At 89 minute, A. Buinickij came to the pitch after a few moments dangerously broke into the penalty area and shot into the box area, the goalkeeper stopped the attack. The first corner kick at the “Steaua” box didn’t do anything dangerous. Soon, the judge announced the end of the match. It is worth noting that FC "Ekranas" is the only Baltic country team playing in the UEFA Europa league play-off stage for the second year.
